Technology .., is a queer thing . It brings you great gifts with one hand and stabs you in the back with the other . You don’t have to go around making trouble for yourself - technology does it for you .
Men is curious by nature and wants to investigate the ultimate cause of everything . As a result , scientific thinking and scientific investigation developed . With the passage of time , we started applying scientific investigation to all fields of our lives Thus men started harnessing science for personal use . The saddest aspect of life right now is that technology gathers knowledge faster than the society gathers wisdom . Modern man has become so much dependent on science that it is impossible for him to live without it . We have become so subordinated to science technology . But why ? We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology , in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology – Carl Sagan . So before discussing the validity of the arguments lets cut to the chase , as we need to know What is Science ? What is Technology ?
Science is the purist of truth and technology is the science that deals with industrial art . Dr. Atma Ram , President of the National Institute of Science of India said in his address “ Science can show the possibility of something to happen , it needs technology to achieve what may be indicated as possible . Technology helps to produce wealth .” Science is intellectual , but technology is commercial but technology , on the other hand the same technology , at bottom is really anti-intellectual . It always disturbs pure reasons , and demands the production of objective fact . In twentieth century technology is becoming more science based , it has also become a powerful tool of economic growth . As economic growth is important for all the countries , technology is becoming more and more strong and what the country needs are a few labor – making inventions . They are approaching the temple of technology with the soul of money changer . Have We Become Slaves Of Technology ? The answer to this question will be an emphatic ‘ Yes ’ .
But the argument doesn’t get a full stop over here , as another question arises that technology is invented by men , technology didn’t discovered men . Then why technology is dominating men ? Technology is just a first – rate piece of furniture for a man’s upper chamber , if he has common sense on the ground floor . Actually all of the biggest technological inventions created by man - the airplane , the automobile , the computer – say little about his intelligence , but speaks volumes about his laziness .
We are the slaves of the running ‘ Time ’ . Man is constantly worried about the proper utilization of time that’s why he invented different kinds of technologies to save time but unfortunately man himself is getting being dominated . Though the day – to – day life of man has become extremely comfortable . Man does not have to walk , he can fly and travel by different means . There are great possibilities of man landing on moon ; it is technology that made it possible . This is perhaps the most beautiful time in human history ; it is really pregnant with all kinds of creative possibilities made possible by science and technology which now constitute the slave of man – if man is not enslaved by it . Right from the plastic toy to plastic surgery , and from a common pin to rocket , we have been taking the help of technology . Boys use to think why to play football , or rugby outside , when there’s a play station at home .
What’s the need to write ? lets text on the computer / laptop . What’s the to read book ? there’s audio book available on net . Girl don’t want to carry even two buckets of water or wash clothes without washing machine . Women don’t know how to spin a thread or weave cloth , sew a fine seam without sewing machine . Doctors can’t tell what is wrong with you without X – rays , CT scan , etc. We even cultivate our land in a proper manner with the help of different kinds of technologies and irrigation facilities have been increased because of tube wells that works with electricity ( Technology ) . Similarly , many other activities depends upon technology . For example , mining for the minerals and drilling for oil and so on . So the greatest task before civilization at present is to make machines what they ought to be , the slaves , instead of the masters of men . Men wake up with the help of mechanical devices , works during the day with the help of various scientific discoveries and inventions and then returns to an air-conditioned house . If we take up technology we will have to say that the world would be a ‘ veritable hell ’ . Modern men cannot imagine passing a few hours in the scorching heat of summer or in the biting cold of winter . Technology has produced too many useful things , resulting in too many useless people . Technology don’t have any gravity that attracts , its the men who sucks ! Resulting as a tool of their tool - Ms. Aanchal Kaushal.. Moreover technology have made man time – conscious and he does not want to waste even a single minute . He want that time should be the deciding factor in his life . But this technical attitude is not good for the over – all development of man .

This is the age of machines ( technology ) . Every activity of man has become mechanized . One of the worst features of this mechanical age is that man is slowly being replaced by machines . The real danger is not that machines will being to think like men , but that men will begin to think and act like machines . It is feared that man will be completely subordinate to technology . Even technology commits suicide when it adopts a creed but men is forcing his mother earth to commit suicide . Mr. Tagore with his sensitive outlook has expressed fear as well as horror of machines / technology in his famous one – act – play ‘ Mukata Dhara ’ . No denying the fact that the large – scale unemployment is because of technology . Machines can do the work of manual workers that is why a number of people are rendered jobless . Totally dependence upon machines and technology is definitely harmful . That’s why Gandhi Jii was opposed to the craze for machines and not the tools . Gandhi Jii said “ The use of machinery should cease to help man and when it began to encroach upon his individuality . ” It’s not the technology that’s bad – it’s the way it is being use .
If man is to work with the help of technology and is dependent totally upon them , it will not be possible for men to remain his normal-self . Technology when becomes master , crush the very spirit of men and bring an end to all his good qualities as a creature of God . I’m compelled to fear that technology will be used to promote the power of dominant group rather than to make them happy . Men has a moral sense which animals don’t have , but technology makes men indifferent to all the higher things of life . Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards . Humanity is acquiring all the right technology for all wrong reasons . I like my new cell phone , my computer just works smoothly , my calculator is perfect , but God , I miss my mind !
